scope:

Purpose. This standard provides the requirements for the uniform marking of military supplies and equipment for shipment and storage. It accommodates the requirements for coded and in the clear data and forms required by Military Standard requisitioning and Issue Procedures (MILSTIP), Military standard Transportation and Movement Procedures, and Military Standard Transaction Reporting and Accounting Procedures for Movement processing.

NOTE: When MIL-STD-129 is quoted in an acquisition document, the standard and all applicable appendices are binding and apply to all marking requirements specified in the contract. Contract marking requirements may be defined by the basic standard only, by the basic standard and specific appendices, or by the complete standard, including all appendices. All marking exceptions and exemptions to this standard must be specified in the acquisition document .
