scope:

This standard covers the minimum requirements for lubrication systems, oil-type shaft-sealing systems, and control- oil systems for special-purpose applications. These systems may serve equipment such as compressors, gears, pumps, and drivers. This standard does not apply to internal combustion engines.

Appendix A provides schematics of typical system components and diagrams of typical complete lubrication, shaftsealing, and control-oil systems.

When the purchaser, in the purchase order or on data sheets incorporated in the purchase order, specifies that oil systems shall be supplied in accordance with API Standard 614, this standard shall take precedence over any other section of any other API standard which covers the same subject.
