This guide specification covers the requirements for base courses in conjunction with all airfield paving regardless of quantity and with any vehicular paving where the surface course will require more than 907 metric tons 1000 tons of flexible (asphaltic concrete) pavement. Use unapproved regional Section 02680S, "Bituminous Paving and Base Course" for base course for lesser quantities of flexible pavement for vehicular paving. Use this guide for base course directly under bituminous and rigid pavements when a material having a CBR of 50 to 80 is required. When a higher CBR is required under flexible pavement, use guide for Section 02722, "Graded Crushed Aggregate Base Course for Flexible Pavement."
