The aim of this Agreement is to establish those parameters and practices for the use of the NATO 7-Bit Code within NATO Military/Civil organizations and for national systems requiring an interface with NATO, which must be treated in a uniform manner, in order to ensure interoperability of telegraphic and data transmitters with telegraphic and data receivers over telecommunications media. This STANAG applies to all NATO controlled military and civil systems and related equipment, with the exception of submarine broadcast systems described in STANAG 5030.
