This standard specifies the end-to-end protocol to support the circuit-mode 64 kbit/s 8 kHz structured bearer service category usable for Speech Information transfer when connected by the pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) as provided by European public telecommunications operators.
An end-to-end protocol provides the mechanism to support user-data transfer between user applications.
Annex A to this standard specifies the method of testing required to identify conformance to this standard.
This standard is applicable to terminal equipment, and other equipment (e.g. interworking units, conference bridges) supporting the circuit-mode 64 kbit/s 8 kHz structured bearer service category usable for Speech information transfer.
NOTE: The characteristics of the ISDN User-Network Interface are specified In normative references [2], [3] and [4] (see clause 2).
