scope:
This standard establishes requirements for the selection and application of synchros for use in military equipments. Included are the following:
a. A list of synchros considered by the Department of Defense as standard for use in the design of military equipments.
b. Requirements for the application of synchros in military equipment.
Specific requirements for the synchros listed in this standard are included in the latest issue of MIL-S-20708 and its associated specification sheets.
The purpose of this standard is to:
a. Provide the equipment designer with a list of synchros from a Qualified Products List (QPL) considered acceptable for military applications.
b. Restrict the number of synchro types used in military equipment in order to provide effective logistic support of field equipment, and to concentrate effort in the improvement of manufacturing techniques for the synchro types included in this standard.
c. Establish criteria pertinent to choice, application, and use of synchros in military equipment.

This standard contains requirements for the selection and application of 60- and 400-hertz synchros in military equipment.
