The present document covers requirements for avalanche beacons. Avalanche beacons are portable radio systems used for locating avalanche victims, for the purpose of direct rescue, i.e. for rescue by comrades not buried by the avalanche. These systems comprise a transmitter as well as a receiver part operating at 457 kHz.
