This Standard specifies the requirements for a non-flammable paint remover for use in the removal of paint coatings, from the metallic surfaces of aircraft and electronic equipment, prior to repainting. The paint remover can be applied to the painted surfaces by brushing or spraying and is allowed to remain undisturbed until the paint film has softened. The paint remover is removed, together with the paint residue, by scraping followed by washing with water, the paint remover may also be removed by rinsing with solvent to Def Stan 80-67. This material should not be used on composites, seals, sealants, rubbers, plastics or adhesively bonded structures. For further information on the selection of paint removers, see Def Stan 03-23 (Part 1).
