PURPOSE
This specification defines the procedures to be followed for the electrodeposited cadmium plating of fasteners, fastening systems and other related hardware primarily as a corrosion protective plating.
CLASSIFICATION
The plating shall be of the following types and classes as specified.
TYPES
Types refer to post plating treatments or lack thereof.
Type I - As plated
Type II - Supplemental chromate treatment
Type III - Supplemental phosphate treatment
CLASSES
Classes refer to the thickness of the cadmium plating (reference 3.4.1).
Class 1 - .0005 inch minimum thickness (13 micrometers)
Class 2 - .0003 inch minimum thickness (8 mircrometers)
Class 3 - .0002 inch minimum thickness (5 micrometers)
Recommendations for improvement or correction of this specification should be directed to the Aerospace Industries Association.
