INTRODUCTION
NRD 636 lists those components or processes which are currently undergoing approval with assistance from DRA. It reflects the situation as reported by companies Technical Progress Reports and is issued for information purposes.
No entry in itself authorises a change to a contract or to any contractual requirement.
The MOD is committed to the use of approved components and to make the maximum practical use of the CECCIBS9000 system. To ensure compliance to this commitment the MOD invokes contractual obligations, ie Def Con 17 and has published Policy: Procedural and General Requirements documents, ie Def Stans 05-37, 59-36, 00-10 (see related documents) for further information of approved components refer to PD 9002, CECC 00200, Def Stan 59-59 (see related documents).
To further assist in the use of approved components the agreement reproduced below was negotiated between representatives of Electronic Engineering Association (EEA) /Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) and the Defence Electronic Parts Committee (DEPCO) which allows Design Authorities to quote CECC or BS 9000 Detail Specification numbers in their Item Lists before the specified components have obtained Approval. The agreement also allows ordering and release of the components, prior to Approval, utilising selected specification requirements.
It should be noted that the Approved item only will be supplied once that Approval has been granted.
Although the agreement refers to 'draft CECC and BS 9000 specifications' it may also be applied if the component manufacturer is proposing to obtain Approval to a detail specification which has already been published.
It is emphasised that, although this agreement has been reached with representatives of the user industry, selection of this method of implementation is at the Design Authority'S discretion, ie the procedure described in the agreement is not mandatory.
Note
NRD 636 now includes details of:
- Components undergoing qualification to Defence Standard 00-9.
- U.K manufacturers undergoing qualification to US DoD Military Specifications. These will typically be listed in Def Stan 59- 59 under NATO Standardization agreement ST ANAG 4093.
- Part 60 and Part 70 series Component Data Sheets (60nO CDS) at draft status or recently issued.
60nO CDS are raised for specifying unqualified components intended for use in MoD equipment.
The objective of the CDS is to provide a rationalised system for the procurement of non-standard product. They apply only to unqualified components and shall not be used until an exhaustive search for fully qualified components has been conducted.
