MODUK - TS 10150A

Paint System Defence Equipment Matt

inactive, Most Current
Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 1 September 1976
Status: inactive
Page Count: 24
scope:

This specification relates to a system of low-lead air-drying paints suitable for the protection of vehicles and equipment when a specified level of infra-red reflectance for camouflage purposes is not required. The system provides a nearly matt, heat and petrol resisting finish with good outdoor durability and is expected to have a useful life of at least 4 years in temperate climates, or 2 years in tropical climates.

The technical requirements of this specification are identical with those of TS 10138 except that the finishing paint is not required to have specified infrared reflecting properties.

In order to avoid the possibility of vehicles or equipment painted in a matt green/black non-infra-red reflecting livery being employed in a situation where an infra-red reflecting camouflage scheme is an operational requirement, finishing paint to this specification will not be approved in NATO Green, Dark Green, Deep Bronze Green, Olive Drab or Black (NATO Green or Black finishing paint of a quality equivalent to that provided by this specification is available to specification TS 10138).

In some circumstances this paint system may not be suitable for use on vehicles or equipment which will be used or stored under conditions entailing partial or intermittent immersion in water.

The paint system is intended for application to suitably prepared ferrous surfaces and to aluminium and aluminium alloy surfaces which have been pretreated with a coat of paint complying with DEF STAN 80-15.

The normal paint system applied to suitably prepared steel or pretreatment primed aluminium surfaces will consist of:

Priming paint to produce a dry film thickness of 30 + 5 μm. Undercoat to produce a dry film thickness of 25 + 5 μm. Finishing paint to produce a total dry film thickness for the complete system of not less than 110 μm.
