The scope of this specification is initially planned to cover all existing functional catering components (i.e., beverage makers, ovens, refrigerators, trash compactors, etc.) with future plans to include emerging catering components (e.g., ice makers, glass and dish washers, multi-beverage dispensers, etc.).

This document covers the Controller Area Network (CAN) data interface attachments and envelops, all necessary data interface OSI layers to describe the protocol, and data content to be considered between smart galley system and galley equipment using a Galley Data Bus.

This document describes all needed commands and messages to implement the following GAIN functionalities:

• GAIN Remote Operation (start/stop catering process, change state, etc.)

• GAIN Power Control

• GAIN Data Transfer (data up/download)

• GAIN Failure Monitoring (diagnosis)

• Network Monitoring

This document should be applied to all devices attached to the Galley Data Bus.

This document does not define the equipment environmental requirements, physical description of the equipment, the GAIN or GAIN system architecture, design, or operation.
