This Standard provides minimum requirements for the construction of reinforced and unreinforced concrete in minorworks including buildings of light timber frame construction within the scope of NZS 3604 and concrete masonry construction within the scope of NZS 4229.

NOTE - This Standard does not provide specific requirements for concrete construction that wiii be subjected to aggressive environments. Typical examples of aggressive conditions are: wet and saline situations in food processing or in relation to marine conditions, farm structures where concrete will be in contact with animal or vegetable waste, commercial and industrial concrete floors subjected toabrasion or chemical attack, or both. For concrete use in aggressive environments expert advice should be sought. Further guidance can be obtained from NZS 3109 and from NZ Concrete Research publications such as IB 55 Concrete for the farm and IB 26 Concrete floors for commercialandindustrial use.

The specified strength of concrete covered by this Standard is 17.5 MPa or greater.
