This specification covers lanterns with a battery case suitable for carrying four standard flashlight batteries in series connection, and fitted to be carried on the belt. The battery case is connected by a flexible cord to an adjustable focus reflectortype light equipped with a switch, and mounted on an elastic band worn on the user's head or hat. Batteries are not covered by this specification.

The portable electric lanterns covered by this specification shall be of one type and two classes:

Class 1. - With 0.15-ampere lamps (See 6.1.1). Class 2. - With 0.30-ampere lamps (See 6.1.2).
