This instruction applies to non-nuclear advance planning products prepared by SHAPEC for SSN Class submarine availabilities including Engineered Refueling Overhauls (EROS), Depot Modernization Periods (DMPs), Selected Restricted Availabilities (SRAs), Interim Dry Dockings (IDDs), Pre-Inactivation Availabilities (PIRAs), Engineered Overhauls (EOHs) and Inactivations (INACs). This instruction also applies to non-nuclear technical work documents (Job Summaries and Task Group Instructions) as well as Tasks and CU PHASES prepared by the availability's Executing Activity. It also establishes the interface responsibilities of the Executing Shipyards with SSN SHAPEC.

PURPOSE.

This instruction provides criteria for SSN SHAPEC (Ship Availability Planning and Engineering Center) non-nuclear technical work documents. This instruction provides the corporate policy and process for the preparation of technical and planning work documents (Job Summaries and Task Group Instructions). Although this instruction does not in itself assign the specific SSN Class SHAPEC preparing activities, it does establish and assign those responsibilities to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for the SSN 688 Class and other SSN Classes currently assigned by previous NAVSEA letters. Future SSN SHAPEC assignments can be made by NAVSEA letters, but the intent of this instruction is to provide the guidelines and criteria for the content of the SSN SHAPEC technical work documents. The purpose is to establish and maintain the best practice technical work instructions and best performance estimates to be used as the corporate product line for SSN availabilities.
