scope:
This INTERIM Defence Standard specifies requirements for four grades (A, B, C and D) of expanded polyethylene sheet for use as a resilient cushioning material in packaging.
The four grades are characterized by maximum permissible apparent density as shown in Table B. The material has low water absorption and is therefore suitable for use outside a moisture vapour barrier.
The designation 'Type GP' indicates the material is of a quality suitable for general packaging applications.
The designation 'Type OX' indicates that the material is suitable for certain applications where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established, and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from the Head of Energetic Materials and Terminal Effects Department, Defence Research Agency, Fort Halstead, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN14 7BP.
