1 SCOPE.

This standard defines, illustrates and specifies allowable limits for the various types of surface discontinuities that may occur during the manufacture and processing of bolts, screws and studs, including heat treated machine screws, tapping screws, and screw and washer assemblies (the washer components of sems are excluded), in sizes 5 to 24 mm (No. 12 to 1 inch), inclusive, with lengths to 150 mm, inclusive, and with specified minimum tensile strength of 830 MPa (120 000 psi) and greater, which are primarily intended for use in automotive assemblies.
