This new ANSI/IIAR standard specifies criteria for materials, design parameters, marking and testing of valves and strainers for ammonia refrigeration valves. The standard applies to shut-off valves, control valves, and strainers designed and manufactured for use in closed circuit refrigerating systems where ammonia is used as the refrigerant.

This standard is not intended to supplant existing safety codes. In cases where the authority with jurisdiction has special requirements that are more stringent than those in the standard, that authority shall prevail.
