scope:
This specification relates to a two-pack, cold-curing, zinc phosphate primer suitable for the protection of steel components. It is intended for use with finishing paints complying with either DTD 5555 or DTD 5580 and a system of one coat of primer and one coat of finishing paint is expected to have a durability of at least four years in temperate climates or two years in tropical climates.
The normal system shall consist of one coat of primer applied at a dry film thickness of 25 ± 5 μm, one coat of finish complying with either DTD 5555 or DTD 5580, prepared and applied in accordance with the appropriate specification.
The paint when mixed and thinned in accordance with the manufacturers instructions shall be suitable for application by spraying and may be applied satisfactorily to small areas by brushing.
The mixed paint shall be capable of being thinned for spray application with thinners complying with DEP STAN 80-38
The colour of the paint shall be number 10.A.03 complying with BS 4800.
