This Standard applietso the lines and equipmenotf electric supply and communication utilities located entirely outside of buildings and fenced supply stations.

This Standard, which forms part of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part III, covers the requirements for construction of overhead systems. It includes electricsupply and communication circuits installed alone, in jointu se, or in proximity toe ach other or other facilities; crossing each other or other facilities; or crossing railways or highways, or land likely to be traversed by vehicles or pedestrians.

The requirementscontained in this Standard do not constitute complete construction specifications but only prescribe the minimum design requirements that are most important from the points ovfi ew of

(a) safety to persons;

(b) continuity of service; and

(c) protection of property.

Conditions noct overed herein shallb e governed by the appropriate requirements or equivalent standards in common use, or as required by constituted authority. 

In some rules, specific types of construction are envisaged. This does not preclude theu se of other types of construction arising out of the continuing development of the art, provided that the engineering representatives of the party or parties involved have evidence as to their safety and suitability
