This part 1 of the International Standard IEC 60598-1 specifies general requirements for the classification and marking of luminaires and for their mechanical and electrical construction together with related tests. The standard is applicable to luminaires for use with electric light sources on supply voltages not exceeding 1 000 V. Additional sections will be added when a need for them is recognized. Each section of this part 1 should be read in conjunction with section 0 of this standard and with other relevant sections to which reference is made.
