scope:

This code covers lightning protection requirements for ordinary structures; miscellaneous structures and special occupancies; heavy-duty stacks; and structures containing flammable vapors, flammable gases, or liquids which can give off flammable vapors.

This code does not cover lightning protection requirements for explosives manufacturing buildings and magazines or electric generating, transmission, and distribution systems. (See Appendix L regarding information on the protection of structures housing explosive materials.)

Purpose. The purpose of this code is the practical safeguarding of persons and property from hazards arising from exposure to lightning.
