This specification covers the general requirements applicable to the design, material and construction of electric, (but not electronic or interior communication), equipment used for Naval shipboard applications. The intent of this specification is to set forth the ambient conditions within which equipment must operate satisfactorily at all times. Specific requirements or exceptions applicable to individual equipment shall be as specified in the individual equipment specifications.

The requirements covered by this specification are intended to apply to Naval shipboard electric equipment which is expected withstand continuous use for long periods under military service conditions. These requirements do not apply to such items as wire, cable, electric contact brushes, fuses and lamps. Comparable requirements for electronic equipment and interior communication equipment are covered by Specifications 16E4 and 17-I-61, respectively.View Less
