The HY-130 steel plate covered by this specification is intended for combatant submarine hull use. This steel may also be used in fabricated welded pressure vessels, surface ship construction, or other critical structural applications where an as-welded, notch tough, high yield strength steel is required. The use of HY-130 steel in fabricated structures or equipment entails much more than a correct material specification, and proper procedures in accordance with the appropriate fabrication documents are required during welding, fabrication, and nondestructive evaluation at the time of use.
