This Defense Standard specifies hexagon socket screws, cap head, metric for Ministry of Defense use in new designs of equipment and, wherever practicable for the maintenance of existing equipment with the exception of:
Situations in which general purpose screws show in DEF STAN 53 - 11 will meet design requirements.
Special situations in which there is a critical requirement for screw of corrosion-resisting steel or with surface coatings other than those specified in this Standard.
Aerospace vehicles, or close support ground equipment for thcse vehicles.
