scope:
This Defence Standard specifies the requirements for smooth bore rubber hoses, coulings and hose assemblies working under the suction and discharge conditions specified. The hose is a general purpose water hose principally intended for use with water. It is not for use with Potable water. The hose cover may be smooth or corrugated and may also be wire armoured to give additional protection. The hose shall also be capable of with standing crushing under normal operating conditions.
The hose is intended for use within the temperature range of -10°C to +70°C and is not intended for fire fighting applications which are covered in BS 3165.
The hose can have a wire-free end, the wire-free end could have an enlarged-end to accommodate a full bore fitting. The wired-to end is where the embedding wire continues, at the same pitch, throughout the full length of the hose.
One Type and four Classes are specified, as follows: (see Note).
Type 3: Heavy-duty hoses for suction service to kPa (800 mbar) and for discharge pressures up to 0.7 MPa (7 bar) according to bore diameter (See Table C) with an embedded helix.
NOTE: This Type is that which was specified by BS 1102:1991 and may be Type 3 of BS EN ISO 14557. Therefore "Type 3" has been kept as the designation throughout this specification.
This Type shall be further divided into classes and designated as follows:
Class "A" : Armoured, having an external wire helix
Class "WF" : A wire-free end
Class "E" : An enlarged end
Class "WT" : A wired-to end
The hose may be fitted with either a full-bore or reduced bore coupling.
These couplings shall be of the Screw Type.
The material for the couplings is defined at Section Three.
