This standard applies to residential central system humidifiers, as defined and classified in Sections 3 and 4 of this standard. Exclusions. This standard does not apply to the following: Self contained humidifiers as defined in ARI Standard 620 for Self-Contained Humidifiers. Portable humidifiers defined in 3.1.3 of ARI Standard 620 and covered by the American National Standard for Appliance Humidifiers (American National Standards Institute Standard Z235.1-1972) (AHAM Standard HU-1-1972). Humidifiers for commercial and industrial applications including steam, evaporative, atomizing, air washers, sprayed coils and evaporative coolers.
Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to establish for central system humidifiers: definitions and classifications; requirements for testing and rating; minimum data requirements for published ratings; operating requirements; marking and nameplate data; and conformance conditions.
Intent. This standard is intended for the guidance of the industry, including manufacturers, engineers, installers, contractors, and users.
Review and Amendment. This standard is subject to review and amendment as the technology advances.
