| ICS Code (Plastics pipes): | 23.040.20 |
scope:
This Technical Report establishes a classification of the chemical resistance of pipe materials to specified fluids over a range of temperatures.
The preliminary chemical-resistance classification given in table 1 - S (satisfactory), L (limited) or NS (not satisfactory) - is only suitable for use with pipes which are not subjected to internal and external mechanical stresses (for example, those caused by internal pressure, flexural stresses). In order to assess the behaviour of pipes and fittings for the conveyance of fluids under pressure, or in the presence of other stresses, in cases when the preliminary classification is S or L, it will be necessary to carry out further tests as specified in ISO 8584-l and/or ISOTR 8584-2.
NOTES
1 To assess the tendency of a material towards environmental stress cracking, tests may be carried out in accordance with ISO 45% and/or ISO 5252.
2 Other properties of the pipe material (e.g. permeability) or of the fluid conveyed (e.g. toxicity, inflammability, etc.) should be considered separately.
