This instruction implements AFPD 21-1, Air and Space Maintenance. It establishes inventory, status, and utilization reporting for selected aerospace vehicles and equipment. It applies to the US Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, Air National Guard, and Government plant representatives assigned to commercial contractor facilities. This instruction implements the material condition measurement reporting requirements of DOD Instruction 3110.5, Material Condition Reporting for Mission - Essential Systems and Equipment, September 14, 1990. In addition, it provides guidance and direction for managing aircraft and missile equipment throughout the Air Force. Major Commands (MAJCOM) and Field Operating Agencies (FOA) may supplement this instruction or the allied publications according to AFI 33-360 vol. 1, Publications Management Program. Supplements must not deviate from the basic intent of this instruction. Supplements must include unique requirements that are essential to the command. Send one copy of each command supplement to HQ USAF/ILMM, HQ AFMC/LGRC-AVDO, HQ AFMC/LGMW, ANG/LGM, and HQ AFRC/LGQRA.
