Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 30 November 1981
Status: inactive
Page Count: 15
scope:

This Standard relates to priming and semi-gloss finishing stoving paints suitable for the exterior protection of steel ammunition. The priming and finishing paints are each satisfactory for direct application to suitably prepared steel surfaces. Two standards of protection are provided. The temperature of stoving should not exceed 130°C

Scheme A, consisting of one coat of priming paint and one coat of finishing paint.

Scheme B, consisting of a single coat of finishing paint only.

Both schemes should , when cool after stoving of the finishing paint , be in such a condition that the painted ammunition may be handled and stacked without damage to the paint film.

Painted ammunition may be moved from one climate to another and may be stacked and stored in temperate, arctic, or tropical climates, under one or more of the following conditions:

Underground where heavy condensation of moisture takes place.

At the coast or on board ships where salt spray is encountered.

Outdoor exposure, inland.

Under condition 1.2.3, in temperate climates, Scheme A is expected to protect steel ammunition for a period of at least four years , and Scheme B for two years. Under conditions 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 the period may be shorter.
