This recommended practice provides minimum recommendations for the interior lining of existing steel- and fiber-glass-reinforced plastic (FRP) underground tanks used for the storage of petroleum-based motor fuels and middle distillates. Recommendations and procedures to be followed and operating conditions to be maintained by contractors, mechanics, and engineers are presented. Methods for vapor-freeing tanks, removing sediment, and cleaning interior surfaces of steel and fiberglass tanks as well as guidelines that may be used to identify tanks that may be lined are also presented. All work must be accomplished in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including applicable safety standards.
