This standard establishes the item marking requirements for identification purposes as requirements for identification purposes as required in stocking and replacement of parts, equipment, and assemblies required by the department of Defense. Other marking requirements such as registration and identification marking required by Department of Defense directions and instruction, warning, and shipment markings are not within the scope of this standard.
PURPOSE. The item marking requirements of this standard are to insure proper and quick identification of parts, equipment, and assemblies as procured, stored, and issued. This information is also necessary for positive identification upon removal for maintenance purposes and to prevent lost of items which have been separated from their original packages or containers.
