This NES covers the engineering principles for the construction of VCS Units and their consoles and assemblies both in standard and miniature form and is applicable to Surface Ships, Submarines, Ship and Weapon Systems and Equipment.

The concise construction details are portrayed in this NES with the use of metricated figures and diagrams and photographic illustrations. Service Drawing Numbers (SDN) are included where applicable.

Environmental Requirements and Testing are included in the NES.

This NES does not include the design of a VCS of detailed technical information on the various VCS Unit Types. This can be found in NES 520 and NES 521 respectively.
