scope:
This Standard relates to a two pack paint finishing system required to provide a protective coating for the internal mild steel surfaces and cast iron fittings of bulk fuel tanks and have no deleterious effect on fuels and fuel additives. The paint system shall retain its properties and withstand normal service use for a period of not less than five years.
For High Build materials the normal system comprises a primer followed by two coats of finish to give a total dry film thickness of not less than 250 μm over the peaks of the grit blasted surface.
For Low Build materials the normal system comprises a primer followed by three coats of finish to give a total dry film thickness of not less than 150 μm over the peaks of the grit blasted surface.
The colour of the final finishing coat shall be white. In order that the individual coats of the complete system can be distinguished one from another, the finishing paint shall also be available as a tinted white. The colour of the primer is left to the discretion of the manufacturer but shall be sufficiently different to distinguish it from either of the finishing coats.
The paint system will normally be applied to grit blasted steel and air-dried at ambient temperature. Each coat and the complete system shall be capable of being force dried at a temperature of approximately 60°C.
