scope:
This standard establishes requirements for the preparation and submission of (Material) Safety Data Sheets (M)SDS by contractors who provide hazardous materials to government activities. MSDS and SDS are used interchangeably in this document.
Purpose. This Standard was developed to expand on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) definition for hazardous materials. Data obtained will be used within the government in employee safety and health programs and to provide for safe handling, storage, use, transportation and environmentally acceptable disposal of hazardous materials by government activities.
Application. Full compliance to the requirements of this standard is not applicable to contractors before June 1, 2015. Until then, contractors may still prepare and submit safety data sheets meeting the previous version of this standard.
