This standard specifies the compressed data format and decoding process for VC-3 compressed video data. VC-3 supports high definition YCBCR video data in both 8-bit and 10-bit sampling depths for 4:2:2 sampling of 1920x1080 and 1280x720 video rasters, as well as 4:2:2 1440x1080 and 960x720 rasters obtained from a 3/4 down sampling of 1920 and 1280 samples per line rasters, respectively. Additionally, progressive RGB video data in 10-bit sampling depth for 4:4:4 1920x1080 is supported.
VC-3 is an intra-frame compression format, with compressed frame sizes ranging from 188416 to 1835008 bytes per frame. The compression parameters are described by the contents of a header data region and attributes associated with a Compression ID described within this standard. The standard does not specify the encoding process nor does it define video frame rates although examples are used in this document.
