MODUK - DEF STAN 03-13

Guide for the Prevention of Corrosion of Metals Caused by Vapours from Organic Materials

inactive, Most Current
Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 1 January 1977
Status: inactive
Page Count: 16
scope:

1. INTRODUCTION

a. In this Standard the corrosion of metals by organic and, in some cases, inorganic vapours from certain organic constructional and coating materials is referred to as organic vapour corrosion. The purpose of this Standard is to give guidance to those engaged in design, production, quality assurance and packaging on:

(1) The tendency of these organic materials to emit corrosive or potentially corrosive vapours.

(2) The liability of certain metals to be corroded by these vapours.

(3) The measures which can be taken to reduce or eliminate the corrosion.

b. The information contained in this Guide is based upon past experience of, and research into, corrosion problems which have arisen in confined spaces and it is far from complete.

c. The Guide relates to the general surface corrosion of parts in use as well as those in store. It does not cover the more complex corrosion reactions eg stress corrosion, contact corrosion, bi-metallic corrosion and orgaxic vapour corrosion caused by thermal decomposition above 75ºC.
