scope:
It is the objective of this guideline to create a uniform terminology for force transducers which allows technical data to be compared and shall be applied in data sheets and publications.
By the definitions the user will be enabled above all to obtain sufficiently detailed information for the selection and appropriate use of force transducers. Some of the definitions relate specifically to force transducers operating on the strain gauge principle, whereas others are applicable to force transducers with integrated amplifier electronics.
The definitions shall, for example, be applicable to:
• force transducers in general
• force transfer standards in calibration devices
• testing and calibration of materials testing machines
• applications in test rig technology
• multicomponent transducers
The metrological determination of the characteristics has to be carried out in such a way that the influence of interferences is minimized. These are in general dependent on the adaptation conditions (force introductions) and on the prevailing ambient conditions.
