scope:
This guideline aims to present an overview of economic and ecological optimisation measures to be taken in printing shops. The optimisation follows the systematic, step-by-step procedure laid out in the guideline VDI 4075 Part 1. The guideline VDI 4075 Part 4 primarily addresses practitioners in printing shops, who are familiar with the printing techniques and operating procedures in printing shops.
Cleaner Production is of particular relevance in printing shops, as the production techniques used offer a high potential for saving energy and material and for reducing emissions and waste. There is also a multitude of options for replacing substances harmful to health and environment by less harmful substances. Particular Cleaner Production potentials lie in the fields of prepress, printing inks, printingpress cleaning, the printing presses and paper handling.
Simple as well as advanced Cleaner Production measures are presented, allowing many printing shops to profit from the guideline. Sheet-fed offset is the main focus, given that this technique is applied by the vast majority of printing shops. The procedure and the most of the Cleaner Production techniques presented are also applicable to other printing techniques.
