This standard describes general rules which have to be followed when planning measurements to investigate the air pollution outside buildings and vehicles. It allows the specification of requirements on the description of the measurement objective, the analysis of available knowledge, the measurement strategy, the measurement technique, the evaluation, the measurement report and the organisation during measurement planning.

The standard measurement plan according to Annex B can be used as a template for formatting and structuring measurement plans.

This standard is addressed to everyone involved in the planning, performance or evaluation of ambient air quality measurements. The content of this standard can be used by clients and customers as a reference, for example, for formulating requirement and performance specifications for the investigation of air quality.
