scope:
Generation rate and emission factors can rarely be defined exactly in the case of diffuse sources. However, sometimes they must be quantified. Therefore, this guideline indicates the relevant mechanisms of formation of emissions due to landfill gas, odor and dust. The important influencing factors are specified and resultant possible emission reduction measures are derived from these.
The purpose of this guideline is primarily to estimate the generation rate and emission factors using defined measurement methods and calculation methods. From these are derived separately the emission factors for gas, odor and dust. In addition, a description is given as to how emission factors are to be determined in practice. The emission factors are the base for air pollution forecasts. The individual Sections specify how air pollution loads can be calculated therefrom in practice.
The question of bacterial cell counts in landfills and their vicinity is not dealt with here, since little generally applicable experience is present on this topic.
