Purpose and scope of the guideline

The present guideline deals with the profile and helix inspection on cylindrical gears with involute profile. The specifications and recommendations made are to ensure that, taking into account the already existing standards, uniform criteria are available also for the carrying-out of measurements. These specifications allow the users to compare directly their measurement results with those of other users or with those of the instrument manufacturers. In view of the increased quality requirements calibration and inspection of gear measuring instruments (uncertainty budget, traceability) are dealt with in greater detail than has so far been the case. For this purpose the most important metrological conditions and requirements which the measuring instruments must meet to assure product quality are given in tabular form.
