scope:
This standard describes a method for the identification and classification as well as for the proof of suitability for multiple of inspection processes. The classification of these processes is based on the relevance of the inspection characteristics to product quality as well as on the probability of a faulty test decision being made. Depending on this risk assessment, various procedures to prove the capability of the inspection process are presented. This standard thus does not provide new procedures to estimate the uncertainty of measurement of the individual inspection processes but enables the user to apply existing methods giving due regard to the risks they involve.
The standard mainly applies to variable tests. The methods that are applied at present to evaluate the capability of attributive inspection processes are not very suitable for the industrial practice, as they do not allow the uncertainties of measurement to be determined for these inspection processes, or to perform the procedures efficiently. It is therefore recommended to use attributive inspection processes only for low-risk features.
