This standard describes a standard procedure for determining and documenting the metrological characteristic of radial spindle deviation of a form measuring system by means of in-situ roundness measurements. The procedure described is suitable for acceptance testing as well as for stability monitoring of form measuring systems (cf. VDI/ VDE 2631 Part 8). Supplementary information is provided in [1 to 3].

The measurement result contains influences which vary depending on the test object, the system and the site; separating these contributions is impossible, or possible to a limited extent only. From the documented test results, the actual condition and changes in the metrological characteristics of the form measuring system at its current site can be established. Among other things, this allows quick and easy detection of changes as caused, e.g., by changed ambient conditions (climatic influences, vibration excitation, etc.), whereupon action can be taken in order to improve the measurement condi-
