Purpose and scope of application

This guideline deals with the planning, dimensioning and the provision and installation of sanitary facilities and built-in kitchens which form a direct part of the individual hotel room.

It applies to all types of hotel, including city hotels, vacation hotels, club hotels, apartment hotels, motels and seminar hotels, irrespective of their appointments class.

The guideline is intended to serve as a resource assisting in planning, construction and operation, independently of all ordinances or regulations. The following aspects should be given particular attention in planning and design:

  • minimum number of sanitary fixtures
  • adequately dimensioned movement areas
  • hygiene
  • functionally reliable, practical and visually appealing facilities
  • safety requirements
  • water and energy savings
  • economically efficient installation
