The VDI/VDE 2180 Series of Guidelines consists of the following parts:
Part 1 Introduction, terms, concept
Part 2 Management system
Part 3 Plant engineering, realization and operation
Part 4 Calculating methods
Part 5 Recommendations for practical use
This guideline applies to installations in the process industry, such as the chemical and petrochemical industries, especially when they are subject to the German Major Accidents Ordinance (Störfallverordnung - 12. BImSchV). It is based on the harmonized standard DIN EN 61511 (VDE 0810). This guideline describes how to protect these installations by means of process control engineering (PCE). For how to implement process control engineering within the total safety concept, see VDI/VDE 2180 Part 1, Section 1 and Figure 1.
This guideline describes the organizational and management-specific activities necessary to ensure that the process installations pose no risk to persons or the environment over their entire lifecycle. This guideline applies only in conjunction with VDI/VDE 2180 Part 1.
