scope:
The standard deals with basic principles, characteristics, and construction of dynamic dampers.
This standard will confine itself to passive elements, in other words to elements which contain no energy infeed.
This standard will only be concerned with dampers, brakes will not be treated. Brakes may be distinguished from dampers by
In addition the standard will not be concerned with the following scopes:
- impact dampers, also known as shock absorbers, shocks, or even as dashpots and described in standard VDI 2061
- damping in hydraulic systems (working circuits) and hydraulic components (end-position damping in hydraulic cylinders, for example)
- oil dampers, also known as oil brakes or dashpots; these are used for reducing speed to a constant
