scope:
The standard specifies generally applicable calibration methods for the calibration of measuring instruments for electrical quantities and thus creates a harmonised, supra-company, systematic basis for the monitoring of testing equipment, i.e. comparable calibration procedures requiring minimum effort. The standard applies to the calibration of direct-voltage measuring amplifiers as used, e.g., for the electrical measurement of mechanical quantities. The standard does not claim to be an exhaustive compilation of all metrological details of measuring amplifiers, even of those relevant to calibration.
The calibration of measuring amplifiers is further motivated by the fact that instead of a calibrated measuring chain, only calibrated pick-ups are often provided for measurement tasks, and that the exchangeability of measuring amplifiers of identical design within measuring chains must be ensured (see, e.g., DIN EN ISO 376). Always bear in mind that the quality characteristics of the measuring amplifiers are usually far better than the quality characteristics of the sensors to be connected, e.g. non-conformity of curves.
