Determining the sensitivity of the signal transmission chain while taking into account the special dynamic aspects of form-measuring instruments is a basic task aimed at securing comparable and traceable results from form measurements. This standard describes the principle procedure and suitable standards (artefacts) for determining the sensitivity of the signal transmission chain of form-measuring instruments.

Determination of the sensitivity of the signal transmission chain forms part of the metrological confirmation of the measuring instrument. It is used for ascertaining the amount of measurement deviation in the signal transmission chain and also for calibrating the measuring instrument.

The procedure and the measurement standards are also analogously applicable to other measuring instruments, for example, coordinate measuring machines if these are used for form measurements.

This standard applies to form-measuring instruments. If form measurements are to be taken using coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) then the provisions of VDI/VDE 2617 Part 2.2 should be noted as well.
