This guideline applies to all areas in which means of production are planned, produced, purchased, operated or maintained. It presents general criteria for the procurement of means of production, and is a concise summary of the cost-driving maintenance criteria for the purchaser/operator as well as the supplier.

The purpose of this guideline is to enable the producer and the operator at the planning stage to understand the maintenance-relevant events around a means of production and to set them out in writing for contractual purposes, if necessary.

Thus the guideline provides the criteria and arguments for a treatment life-cycle oriented point of view.

This guideline provides information on the costdriving, investment-related criteria of maintenance. Responsibilities are named in the tables. It is advisable to document the relevant criteria in written during the procurement proceedings or to make them an integral part of the performance specifications (see also VDI 2519 Part 1).
